Learn To
Skate
New to skating?
The Ice offers 6-week sessions of Learn to Skate USA group classes throughout the year. This allows skaters to build their skating foundation no matter the season.
Registration can be done in person or online and must be paid in full at the time of registration. Students who wish to continue their enrollment should consult with their current class instructor to determine the appropriate class level to be assigned in the following semester.
Where to start?
All skaters will start out in one of our introductory levels:
Snowplow Sam 1 – ages 3 – 5
Basic 1 – ages 6 – 15
Adult 1 – age 16 and up
For our youngest skaters, ages 3 – 5, they will start in our Snowplow Sam Series: levels 1, 2, and 3. Tots who pass all three Snowplow Sam levels, and who demonstrate the emotional and intellectual maturity necessary for the Basic Skill series, may continue to Basic 2.
Skaters and parents should never be discouraged if it takes more than one class semester to successfully complete a level. Each skater is encouraged to progress and learn at their own rate. Our coaches are there to help encourage and guide skaters on their ice skating journey.
First Day of Class
On your first day of class, skaters should arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in at the registration table and get acclimated to the rink layout, get your skates on and be prepared for class. Students will meet their instructor on the ice.
What to wear?
It is recommended that beginners and young children wear a hat or helmet, gloves or mittens, and long pants/active wear. (A sweater/jacket is recommended as the rink can be very cold.)
Interested in 1:1 Private Ice Skating Lessons?
Skaters are more than welcome to begin taking private skating lessons at any level. Private lessons at the beginner levels will supplement group class learning and can help build confidence in foundational skating skills. Private lessons are also a great option if your skater has passed our Basic Skills levels and is ready to step up their training and start competing.
